1. To facilitate the opportunity for young people from all communities to play in an orchestra.

Auditions are widely advertised. Each year members of the orchestra come from as far as Kwambonambi, Richard’s Bay and Empangeni, KZN North and South Coast regions, Durban and surrounding areas, Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands. All prospective members have the possibility of financial assistance in meeting the cost of the January camp, instruments, and monthly membership fees, depending on sufficient funding being received.

  2. To empower young people from previously disadvantaged groups to become members of the orchestra and achieve their musical potential.

We encourage disadvantaged young musicians are to be part of KZNYO, by assisting in lending instruments, paying costs of fees and transportation to rehearsals and concerts.

  3. To provide the opportunity for all communities, including previously disadvantaged communities, to hear and appreciate orchestral music.

Each year the KZNYO presents between 10 and 15 concerts. These concerts represent wide coverage of the KwaZulu-Natal region, are well publicised in the media and well attended. Some concerts are free entrance or a donation ‘according to your means’ basis, or tickets are sold at reasonable prices so as as to make concerts accessible.
