Auditions

In order to be accepted into the KZN Youth Orchestra, you will have to audition.

During this audition, you will need to:

• Perform accompanied or unaccompanied before the resident conductors and / or tutors.

• Show evidence of Grade 4 or equivalent competency.

• Play two scales of your own choice (one slurred and one separate for string players; one slurred and one tongued for wind and brass players).

• Play two excerpts, no longer than two minutes each, from contrasting pieces (one fast, one slow).

Requirements for percussion players are different. The need to:

• Play two excerpts, no longer than two minutes each, from contrasting pieces (one fast, one slow), preferably with a backing track.
